CHRISTMAS IN NORWAY

INTERESTING CHRISTMAS IN NORWAY

Christmas is one of my highlights for the year 2019 in a new Norwegian culture.

Christmas is the best moment to share our love with the members of the family. This i believe is true about the Norwegian culture i have been part of this culture in 2019.With a very long time excitement and joy for everyone, where the celebrations start in November where they put up decorations and lighting of the streets of the Norwegian houses and the streets of the roads just turn one on in Christmas Moods as soon as possible.

Norwegians had different stuff before and during Christmas season i experienced such us singing Christmas songs every day, Jule bus (Christmas soda) Pinne kjØtt (goats meat/ lamb) that is only kept for Christmas and eaten when its dry, lute fisk, Christmas cookies, different traditional Christmas foods, Rice porridge, special Christmas songs before eating. Watching Christmas movies, Jule quiz among others.

The thing i found interesting about Christmas in Norway especially during the infield at Hald Internasjonale Senter with only international students. Infield is like a follow up process where the international students living in Norway go back to the school and share some ideas and experiences from what they have gone through during their internship places. We had Group workshops where each had to come up with an idea of what to make out of Ginger bread /pepperkake  we had to compete in making something out of it.These houses are supposed to be destroyed and eaten before Christmas ends.

Unlike other countries like Uganda where i come from, Norway and other Scandinavian countries do their celebrations on the 24th which is the Christmas Eve.

One of the best Christmas traditional I enjoyed is dancing and singing around the Christmas tree which is done by every family during this season celebrating the birth of Christ such as "Så går vi rundt om en enebærbusk" meaning Here we go around a mulberry bush among others, i happen to do this with the family i got this year Hald Family and other families i celebrated Christmas with in 2019. After the dancing there is another interesting part of playing games and opening gifts in that i got so many gifts for this Christmas which i had never gotten as before.

Dancing and singing around Christmas tree during celebrations.

Christmas was one of my highlights for the year 2019 wishing to be part of this culture again.
